Transition to Secondary School

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I would like to formally introduce myself as Head of Year for your son/daughter when they start Year 7 at DBIS Secondary School in August. I have recently returned to school following maternity leave and I am thrilled to be continuing as Head of Year 7.

This is a big step in your child’s educational journey and naturally, both parents and students have many questions about the process. Many of you will have seen the scheduled transition events on the school calendar, unfortunately, these have not been able to go ahead in the format we had originally intended due to the ongoing situation with COVID. Please accept my apologies that this wasn’t communicated until now.

We will, however, be running a modified transition event on Wednesday (Y6AH & Y6CD) and Thursday (Y6RM & Y6TW) afternoon. Whilst it is not possible to experience a secondary school day, students will be given an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the secondary school and learn more about the life of a secondary student.

In lieu of a Parent Transition Information Evening, I will be sending out an information booklet by the end of the week which we hope will answer any questions you may have. Please feel free to contact me directly via email ([email protected]) to resolve any additional queries.

I look forward to working with you and your children over the coming academic year.

Best wishes,

Morag Armstrong

Head of Year 7
