Welcome Back to our Year 10 Parents and Guardians

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome back; I hope you had a wonderful Christmas break and had a chance to recharge and de-stress after another quite tumultuous season in Hong Kong.

Students have settled back in well and continue to work hard in the pursuit of success in their IGCSE and BTEC subjects. The jump from Year 9 to Year 10 is significant, and students are finding the workload higher and demands greater. I am very proud of how they are adapting and have witnessed many examples of the students being conscientious and proactive in their learning. Many students continue to impress their teachers, who have regularly awarded them with shout-outs and certificates and have emailed notes of praise.

As well as this, the tutors continue to meet with the students 1:1 regularly to support their wellbeing and we do also, of course, still have the support of Mr Broderick and Ms Bredbury. Please do feel free to reach out to myself or any of the tutors if you feel that your child would benefit from wellbeing sessions with Mr Broderick or counselling from Ms Bredbury.

A few reminders:

Punctuality and attendance

  • Students must arrive at school between 8 and 8.25am.
  • 1:1 sessions with their tutor are compulsory.
  • If your child is unable to come to school, please fill in the JotForm here and encourage them to access the Google Classrooms once they are well, to catch up on missed work.

Lunch arrangements

To accommodate the Education Bureau requirements about students eating arrangements at lunchtime, we have two sittings, with set year groups having their lunch at certain times.

  • Students will need to eat their lunch in either the Canteen, Globe or Sports Hall in year group bubbles.
  • The designated eating time for years  9, 10 and 11 is from 1.55–2.15 pm.

Uniform/hair reminder

  • Hair must be a natural colour.
  • Nails must also be neutral and short.
  • Full PE kit should be worn on days when students have PE at any period.
  • In cold weather, only school hoodies or jackets may be worn.
  • Full details can be seen in the student diaries (page 123).

Target setting and diaries

  • Students should be writing down all of their homework, test dates and reminders in their school diaries.
  • Diaries should be signed by parents/guardians weekly.
  • Students will be meeting 1:1 with their subject teachers again soon to review their Term 1 targets – it would be wonderful if parents/guardians could also have conversations around these targets at home; all of them are written in school diaries.

Thank you for your continued support and let’s hope that Term 2 runs smoothly. The students have displayed such resilience and positivity during a very difficult time, and we have so many reasons to be proud of them.

Best wishes,

Samantha Hine
