Welcome Back to Term 3 in Year 2

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome back! We are thrilled to be able to welcome the children to embark upon the final term of the academic year. We hope you and your family had a wonderful and restful Easter break and are ready for an action-packed Term 3 learning about ‘What Lies Beyond’.  

In Discovery this term, the children will be addressing the question ‘What lies beyond us – above, below?’ In this unit they will explore space, Earth including the continents and oceans, and their home and host countries. They will explore their own locality and ask questions about the world around them. In line with this, in English, we will be looking at a collection of fiction, non-fiction and poetry around space, Planet Earth and Hong Kong, starting with the exciting non-fiction book The Skies Above Our Eyes.

This overview provides a summary of what your child will be learning this term.

Please ensure you continue to discuss your child’s learning with them. Much of their work is recorded within their Google Drive, Classroom and on Seesaw.

With regard to homework, we will be continuing with our regular system and schedule of:

• All spelling will be sent home on a Friday.
• Reading to take place each night. Please can you, as parents, sign this.
• Once children are no longer taking book banding books home, we encourage them to record the title of their book and the pages that they read in their diaries on a daily basis. Please can you, as parents, sign this.

Year 2 Open Morning –  24th & 25th April 2024

Year 2 Onwards & Upwards – 27th June 2024

On 24th & 25th of April (families will be divided across the two days), we will have an Open Morning in the Year 2 classrooms. This will showcase the children’s learning and understanding from Term 3, especially related to our ‘What Lies Beyond’ Discovery unit. We will also have the Year 2 Onwards & Upwards morning on 27th May where we will celebrate the children before they prepare to move to Year 3.

Term 1 for next academic year (2024–25) will commence on Monday 19th August 2024. Both Monday 19th and Tuesday 20th August will be half days, with the children going home at 12pm for Parent–Teacher conferences to take place.

Thank you for continuing to engage with your child’s learning; the children have flourished this term and have displayed a true love of learning in all our units of Discovery. 

This will be a fantastic term full of learning for Year 2. As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher.
