Chatter Tubes:

We are looking forward to learning more about each child through their Chatter Tube. Please bring in your child’s Chatter Tube during their first week of school, beginning Thursday 25th August.

Parent and Teacher Conferences

Your first Reception Parent–Teacher Conference (PTC) will take place from 1.30pm on Thursday 25th and Friday 26th August. On these days, the children will be dismissed at 11.45am, and they will return home for lunch. You will have the option of either meeting in person or online via Google Meet. This will be an opportunity for you to meet with your child’s class teacher and share any useful information you have about your child. If you haven’t signed up, please do so via this link. A Google Meet link will be communicated to you for joining the meeting upon booking the PTC.

Class Parents

Class parents play an important role in Discovery Bay International School’s community and culture. This role greatly benefits everyone within a class, assisting the teacher in a range of ways throughout the year. Class parents are parent volunteers who take on the role in the early weeks of each new school year. This role is not limited to one person, and ideally, each class should have two class parents. If you are interested in taking on this role, please let your child’s class teacher know. The class teachers truly appreciate the support we receive from our class parents throughout the year.

Home Readers

Throughout the year, your child will take home reading books. This is an opportunity for your child to practise the skills they have been learning in school. Reading at home should be a positive experience for your child where they can continue to build confidence, fluency and support their application of skills. We will share more information about this before sending books home. To support home reading, we kindly ask for you to provide a named A4 plastic zip folder. The children will bring home their reading book and diary in this each week.

Reception Information Afternoon

On Thursday 1st September, we will be holding an online Reception Information Afternoon from 3pm to 3.45pm. Further information about this will be communicated closer to the time.

Drop Off and Pick Up Time

The end of the day is an exciting time; however, it can be a very busy time too. Our prime concern is to ensure every child gets collected by the right adult and returns home safely and happily. Therefore, we have a system that must be adhered to.

Please inform your child’s class teacher of three named adults who might collect your child. Please ensure all of these adults have a DBIS ID photo card. If you have not registered for these, please contact [email protected] to register.

Further information relating to DBIS ID photo cards and dismissal procedures can be found in the class letters.

Class Welcome Letters:

Attached you will find personalised Reception Welcome Letters for each class, which include important information about Reception school life.

Safari: Safari Parents Welcome Letter 2022

Harbour: Harbour Parents Welcome Letter 2022

Castle: Castle Parents Welcome Letter 2022

It is a very exciting time of year for all of us, and the Reception team is really looking forward to getting to know our Reception families. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. Thank you for your support, and we look forward to working in partnership with you.

Kind regards,

The Reception Team
