Dear FS-2 Families
Happy New Year and welcome back! We hope you and your children had a wonderful and restful break together after an action-packed Term 1
We are now embarking on Term 2, which looks set to be equally as busy and fun-filled as the last term. This letter contains some information about the upcoming term.
Key Dates
Please continue to check the DBIS key dates here:https://hub.dbis.edu.hk/Â
You can also reference the FS-2 Key Dates document, which will be placed on each class’s Communication Board. Please find the FS-2 Term 2 Key Dates linked: FS-2 Term 2 Dates for Parents 2025.docx
FS-2 Families Volunteer Sign-up
Class teachers will post sign-up sheets for family members to come in and read a story at the end of the day or to share passion projects such as cultural holidays, occupations or hobbies. For families unable to sign up in person but who wish to do so, please contact your child’s class teacher to express your interest.Â
Reading and Library
The children will come home with new reading and library books in week 1. Please read these books over the week with your child and return them to school on your allocated day. This is a gentle reminder that we cannot provide your child with a new book if you do not return the reading and library book each week. Â
Term 2 Learning
Our new Discovery unit of learning this term is called ‘Storytelling’. We will engage in varied learning experiences that hook the children’s interest, develop an understanding of different texts and extend creativity. This is a fun and engaging concept, and we are keen to broaden the children’s literacy skills taught during Term 1 through different ways of thinking and application.Â
We will also deepen our understanding of the world by exploring Chinese and Lunar New Year celebrations and taking part in our Lunar New Year Temple Fair. Please be aware that children will need one adult to attend, 1:30pm – 2:40pm.
For more information regarding FS-2 for the academic year 2024-25, please refer to the linked Welcome to FS-2 booklet and the EYFS Curriculum Handbook, which can also be located on the Hub.
Housekeeping
Please ensure children bring the following items each day:
- Named water bottleÂ
- Lunch box (labelled with your child’s name and class)
- Wellies and raincoat (labelled with your child’s name and class)Â
- Named plastic folders (for reading and library books) on your allocated day
Please ensure your child wears the appropriate and correct uniform to school daily. Details of this can be found on our school website. Please note that only DBIS uniform jackets and jumpers are permitted in cooler weather. For health and safety reasons, students with long hair must tie it back, and jewellery is not permitted. Â
Please continue to check the DBIS Parent Hub regularly for key information. A summary of DBIS communication processes can be found here:
