Welcome to Term 2 in Year 3 2022–23

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We hope you and your children had a wonderful and restful break together after an action-packed Term 1 learning about ‘Significant People’ and ‘Light and Sound’.

We are now embarking on Term 2, which looks set to be as equally busy and fun filled as the last term.

In Discovery this term, the children will be exploring different ‘Mighty Civilisations’ and finding out how and why they developed. In line with this, in English, we will be producing news reports and diaries in response to, ‘Cinderella of the Nile’ as well as writing their own version of ‘Theseus and the Minotaur’. In Maths, we will consolidate our work on multiplication and division before focusing on geometry, and measurement in the context of ancient buildings.

For further details regarding the ‘Mighty Civilisation’ Discovery unit as well as an overview of the whole curriculum for this term, please read the Term 2 Parent Overview, which can be found on the Hub.

The Primary Student Councillors will be ‘Pointing out the Positives’ each week, and they would love your help in supporting children wearing the correct uniform to school. For more information, please see the additional Hub notice that went out before Christmas or check the school website for the uniform policy.

Home Learning
Please ensure you continue to discuss your child’s learning with them. Much of their work is recorded within Seesaw, and the children are always so delighted when you like or comment on their learning. The Home Learning tasks assigned each Friday are a super way to engage with your child’s learning, and these will continue next term.

Trip to Tai O
During this unit, Year 3 will have the opportunity to visit Tai O, a local village with over 3,000 years of history. There is an information session online at 3.30pm on Wednesday 11th January to share further details.

Forest School
We are delighted to welcome Tania Reinert to support our delivery of Forest School sessions for Year 3. These will begin after the Chinese New Year break. The sessions will support the children’s understanding of ancient civilisations, as well as offer opportunities to develop key social and emotional skills.
