Year 7 Termly Bulletin
I would like to offer a warm welcome back to all Year 7 students, parents and staff. I am so pleased that our Year 7 students have had a smooth transition into Secondary school, now made even smoother with the relaxations of Covid restrictions.
Our Year 7s have made an incredible start to their Secondary school careers and have much to celebrate, including various sporting fixtures, internal house competitions and online FOBISIA events. The students have adapted to Secondary life very well and are thriving. At the end of Term 1, we had our celebration assembly where students were recognised by teachers for displaying aspects of the DBIS Learner Profile. I received over 30 nominations, which is a fantastic achievement. Some special mentions include:
- Theo Johnson
- Hyojay Shin
- Lucas Goggins
- Mariana Gonzalez Pavez
All of the above students received multiple nominations from teachers.
Tutor Time
1:1 tutoring continues each morning, and your child’s tutor will have informed them when to attend. This provides an opportunity for the tutor to discuss any difficulties, provide support or just get to know their tutees better.
House Events
With COVID-19 restrictions relaxing, we were able to run full house events in Term 1, and this will continue into Term 2. These events are led by our House Captains, with students taking part in house competitions every Friday. There will be opportunities throughout the term for them to compete in whole-school events.
SMART Targets
The start of the term is also a great opportunity to review the student-led SMART targets. Building on what the students achieved last term is important and by setting their own targets, students tend to be more motivated to strive towards them. It is important that these are realistic, and I will be discussing them with the students in the coming weeks.
Uniform/Hair
I would like to take this opportunity to remind all students of the expectations regarding school uniform. Particular reminders are that students wear plain black school shoes and school hoodies, jumpers and jackets.
Key Date
- Strength and Target Reports: Tuesday 28th March 2023
Thank you for your continued support with the Year 7 students. They have settled into Term 2 with renewed focus, determination and passion, which I hope will carry them through to the end of the year.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Kind regards,
Karina Johnson
