Welcome to Term 3 in Year 2

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome back! We hope you and your children had a wonderful and restful break together after an action-packed Term 2 learning about ‘Inspiring Artists’ and ‘Fantastic Firsts’.

We are now embarking on Term 3, which looks set to be equally as busy and fun filled as the last term.

In Discovery this term, the children will be addressing the questions; What can we discover about the world beyond our local community? and, How does this knowledge help us understand our place on planet Earth? These questions will guide our inquiry in our new Term 3 Discovery unit, ‘What Lies Beyond?’

In line with this, in English, we will explore the solar system in our whole-class text Space Ace, take a tour around Asia in The Boy Who Biked The World and delve into Hong Kong’s rich history with the fun and engaging story Hong Kong History Girl. The children will explore space poems from The Watcher of The Skies and will write their own poems inspired by the Milky Way. They will also explore Oliver Jeffer’s thought-provoking text Here We Are and begin to ask questions about the amazing planet on which we live.

The Learning for Life curriculum, which focuses on promoting the health and wellbeing of our pupils, has been taught throughout the academic year. During Term 3, we will be teaching the Relationships and Sexual Education (RSE) element. Specific information about this will be shared in a separate Hub bulletin.

Please continue to discuss your child’s learning with them. Much of their work is recorded within their Google Drive, Classroom and on Seesaw.

With regard to homework, we will be continuing with our regular system and schedule of:

  • All homework is set on Google Classroom on a Friday, to be completed for the following Friday. This consists of Maths, Discovery or English, and Spelling.
  • Reading each night. Children are to record the title of their book and the pages that they read in their diaries on a daily basis. Please can you, as parents, sign this too.

Please find the Year 2 Term 3 Key Dates linked HERE.

For more information regarding Year 2 for the academic year 2024–25, please refer to the linked Welcome to Year 2 booklet and the KS1 Curriculum Handbook, which can also be found on the Hub.

We look forward to welcoming you back to school very soon.

Best wishes,

The Year 2 Team
