Welcome to Term 3 in Year 2

Monday 29th April 2019

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to Term 3! We hope you all had a lovely holiday. This letter contains some important information about Term 3 and some key dates for your diaries. We would like to formally welcome Mrs Merridy Smits to the Year 2 team who has now taken over the responsibility for teaching Y2ES whilst Mrs Sharman is on maternity leave.

Term 3 Overview
Please follow this link – LINK – to the Parent Curriculum Overview which outlines what your child will be learning in each curriculum area this term as well as key dates. This can also be found on the DBIS Parent Hub.

Spelling & Maths Homework
Homework will begin again this week. Spelling lists, reading books and Mathletics homework will continue as in previous terms.

Year 2 Onwards & Upwards Ceremony & Open Morning – Wednesday 19th June 8:35-9:00am
This is a wonderful opportunity for the children to share all of their hard work with you from throughout the year. We will also celebrate the children’s great achievements in Year 2 during our Onwards & Upwards Ceremony.

Shared Lunch & Class Parties – Wednesday 26th June
We will have our Year 2 Shared Lunch and class parties on this day to celebrate the end of a fantastic year. The children can come to school wearing Summer themed clothing on this day.

School Uniform and hats
A friendly reminder that all children are expected to attend school each day in correct school uniform (including school shoes and shoulder length hair tied back). The children need to bring their own DBIS named hat in every day in order to be able to play outside in the playground.

Class Mixing
During Term 3, the teachers and students will be involved with the class mixing process to create the new classes for the next academic year 2019-20. This is a very careful process that involves a great deal of thought and discussion in order to ensure the children are placed effectively. When creating the new classes, a number of considerations form part of the process including gender, student learning needs and teachers' professional knowledge of the students themselves. In addition, we involve the students in this process by asking them to select 4 friends from across the year group who they feel they work well with and would be happy to be in a class with the following year. We consider their friendship choices to be equally weighted when placing the children.

As a school, we commit to ensuring children are placed with at least one friend from their list. Whilst every effort is made to ensure the children are placed with a friend, we have to appreciate that family circumstances change and some children may leave unexpectedly at the end of the school year. We therefore cannot guarantee that your child will be placed with a friend from their list if the child they were originally placed with leaves the school. As always, we kindly remind you that we do not accept requests for teachers and carefully consider which teacher each child is placed with as part of the class mixing process. Should you have any questions regarding the placement of children, we kindly ask that these are directed to a member of the Primary Leadership Team.

We are looking forward to a fantastic final term of learning and exciting experiences in Year 2. If you have any queries or questions about any of the above, please do come and speak to your child’s class teacher.

Kind Regards

The Year 2 Team
