Welcome to Term 3 – Sixth Form (Years 12 & 13)

Dear Parents/Guardians,

This term will no doubt be a busy and sometimes stressful term for our Sixth Form students. Parents play a vital role in supporting their children through examinations by fostering a positive and encouraging environment. Helping to establish a structured study schedule that balances study time with breaks will ensure your child remains focused yet relaxed during the study leave period. During our remaining Learning for Life lessons and tutor times this term, teachers will be providing the necessary resources and discussions to support this.

Additionally, we encourage you to engage in open conversations about your child’s concerns and stress levels, offering reassurance and understanding. Encouraging healthy habits, such as proper nutrition, regular exercise and sufficient sleep will also support your child in being in the best mindset for their studies.

FOCUS are offering an engaging and practical talk on Wednesday 30th April (9.30am – 11am) in Central, designed to equip participants with actionable strategies to provide support through exams, without the conflict or tears. Sessions range from understanding exam stress, motivating without pressure and supporting emotional resilience. If you are interested, please complete the registration form. Please also reach out to your child’s tutor or Head of Year if you have any concerns, either before or during study leave, and we will be happy to support you and your family.

We are so proud of how the Sixth Form has continued to flourish and grow over the past term. Here’s a roundup of our recent highlights and upcoming events in the Sixth Form.

In March, many of our Sixth Form students received their IAL modular exam results, and we are thrilled to report that they were extremely impressive! Numerous students achieved perfect scores across a variety of subjects. Congratulations to all our students for their hard work and dedication!

Our U20 boys’ football team continued to demonstrate remarkable success in the league and placed second in the ISSFHK Silver Division Pool 1. They advanced to the semi-finals against IS International School and came third overall. Well done, team!

This term, our talented Sixth Form musicians showcased their skills in two incredible performances: DBIS Live and the Spring Concert. It was a delight to witness their passion and talent on stage!

We are excited to announce that the first DBIS runathon was a tremendous success, raising an impressive $221,527 for our house charities. A huge thank you to our Head Prefects and the Prefect team for organising and running this wonderful event.

Our Year 13 leavers’ T-shirts and hoodies have been designed by our Head Prefects and the order has been sent to our suppliers, Tsunami. If your child has placed an order, please check your emails for information about payment and deadlines for payment.

Finally, our Year 13 graduation will take place on Thursday 19th June, with the ceremony beginning at 4pm. The ceremony will be followed by a drinks and canapés reception with a chance for family photographs. The event is a joyous occasion, and we look forward to sharing more details with you in the next few weeks. At approximately 6.30pm, our Year 13 graduates will attend a formal dinner held at the InterContinental Grand Stanford hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui with the theme of ‘Hollywood Glamour’. The entire event is supported with the generosity of the PTSA, and we are most grateful for their commitment to the Sixth Form.

We look forward to an exciting term ahead filled with more achievements and events, including saying goodbye to our Year 13 ‘Class of 2025’. Please refer to the key dates below to enable you to add these to your calendars.

Best wishes,

Rebecca Boddington and Nick Moore
