Welcome to Year 10

Subject: Welcome to Year 10

Dear Parents & Guardians,

A warm welcome back to all of our returning families, and a very special welcome to the new families joining the DBIS community this academic year. I am incredibly excited to continue working with this fantastic cohort of students and to build on the great progress they made last year. I also look forward to working in partnership with you as parents to ensure your children have a successful and fulfilling year.

Year 10 is a significant and exciting step for your children as they begin their IGCSE/BTEC courses. They’ll have the opportunity to delve into subjects they have chosen and are passionate about, developing important knowledge and skills in these areas.

With this new chapter comes a natural shift in demands and expectations. We understand that this can feel like a big leap, and I want to assure you that we are here to guide and support your children every step of the way. Our goal is to help them become more independent, organised, and confident, allowing them to achieve their full potential. A big part of this support will come through our dedicated tutor time curriculum, which is specifically designed to meet your children’s needs by discussing and building essential learning skills and positive attitudes. To ensure they get the most out of this, it is crucial that your child arrives at school and is ready to learn in their tutor room by 8:20 AM each morning.

I’m pleased to announce that your children will be supported by the same fantastic team of tutors who worked with them in Year 9: Ms. Higgins (10B), Mr. Xia (10D), and Mr. Reinhardt (9I). Please note that while the tutor team remains the same, your child may have a new tutor this year, as all tutor groups have been mixed to provide a fresh start for this important stage in their educational journey.

Tutor Introductions

Ms Higgins 10B:

Hi everyone, I’m Naomi, and I’m really pleased to be your child’s form tutor this year. I teach Design Technology and also run the table tennis club after school. This is my third year at DBIS, and I’m looking forward to working with you to help make it a great one for your child.

Mr Xia 10D:

I’m Shawn, your child’s tutor for this year, and I also teach Year 10 Mathematics. I’m excited to support my tutees’ academic growth and well-being. In addition to teaching, I participate in the school’s basketball extracurricular activities and enjoy playing squash in my free time.

Mr Reinhardt 10I:

Hello, my name is Chris, and I will be supporting your child as a form tutor through year 10. I am a teacher of Art and Design Technology and have been at the school for 5 years.
