Year 1 DTaP-IPV Vaccination Clinic

Dear Parents of Year 1 Students,

The Department of Health will come to our school on Tuesday 23rd January 2024 to administer a vaccination with Combined Diphtheria, Tetanus, acellular Pertussis and Inactivated Polio (DTaP-IPV) to eligible Y1 students. The Department’s Immunisation Team will also check the immunisation records of the students for any history of BCG vaccination. Those students aged 15 years or under without a history of BCG vaccination will be referred to the Chest Clinic for optional further management.

The Department of Health has advised that:

  • All Year 1 students should receive the above immunisation even if they have received a booster dose at a younger age. However, if your child has received the booster at or after 4 years of age he/she should not receive this immunisation.
  • Students who have health problems should consult their family doctor before receiving this vaccine.

Consent forms were sent home last week. Please carefully review the form and sign the desired consent or refusal. The CHP School Immunisation Team requires several weeks of preparation leading up to the immunisation date. Therefore, we ask that your child’s completed forms be submitted directly to the medical room along with original immunisation records/booklet before Friday 1st December 2023. Please be assured that these documents will be kept securely in the medical room over the Christmas break, in preparation for the immunisation date. After the vaccination is given on Tuesday 23rd January, all original records/booklets will be returned to a Parent or Guardian after school.

This vaccination is a parental option. Although our Health and First Aid Coordinators support our students, some students who are particularly fearful may feel more comfortable with an individual visit to their family Doctor.

Please read the information sheet carefully. If you have any queries, please contact the School Immunisation Team at 2615 8585 or 2615 8563 during office hours.

Yours Sincerely,

Kate Yarnall & Jess Peeters

Health and First Aid Coordinators
