Dear Year 1 Families,
Last week, we began our adventurous new Discovery unit ‘Cartography… Our World on Paper’. In this unit, we will be learning all about the importance of map making within our local community and across the world. We will be exploring the lives of significant explorers from the past and from present day life and understanding the importance of the role that maps play in exploration.
We have already begun our map making learning journey within our classrooms, and next we will be taking our learning to our Beach School. On Monday 17th March 2025, we will visit our local beach and use key skills to create our very own maps of Tai Pak Beach at DB South Plaza.
Trip Details:
8.45am – Leave DBIS and begin the walk to the beach.
9.00am – Arrive at the beach and sit in small groups to create our own maps.
9.45am – Snack and play.
10.30am – Depart the beach and walk back to DBIS.
All children should wear PE kit and trainers. Please ensure your child has a sunhat and/or jumper (weather dependent). As we will be having our snack at the beach, please ensure this is packed in a small bag with a full water bottle.
We would love parent helpers to support with this trip and lead a small group. Sign-up sheets will be available soon on your child’s board.
Please contact myself or your class teacher if you have any questions.
Kind regards,
Miss Grella
Head of Year 1
