Year 11 – Welcome Back

Dear Parents,

I would like to extent a warm welcome back to you all after our Christmas Break and remind you of the key dates for Year 11 this year;

  • UniFrog Session for Year 11 Parents – 20/01/2020 – please see information below regarding this
  • Staff Training Half Day, School closed to students for half day – 28/02/2020, more information to follow
  • Year 11 Strength & Target Reports – 17/03/2020
  • Year 11 Study Leave Starts – 29/04/2020

I would also like to inform all parents of a few other notices regarding Year 11;

Over the Christmas Break myself and the Year 11 tutors were busy analysing the Year 11 Mock Exam data which you all received in students’ reports on 13/12/2019.  As a result of this we plan on running some targeted meetings with parents and students to ensure that all students are on track to achieve their targets for their real exams.  Please look out for an email after the CNY break from either myself or tutors regarding this.

In keeping with our commitment to provide students with outstanding careers guidance and tailored support when choosing their next step after school, we will now be using Unifrog from Year 11.

Unifrog brings into one place every undergraduate university course, apprenticeship, and college course in the UK as well as other opportunities, such as School Leaver Programmes, MOOCs and every college at Oxford and Cambridge. This makes it easy for students to compare and choose the best university courses, apprenticeships or further education courses for them. They can also explore exciting opportunities further afield by looking at English-taught undergraduate programmes available in Europe, USA, Asia, Canada, Australia and elsewhere.

Additionally, the platform helps students successfully apply for these opportunities by using Unifrog to write their personal statement, applications and CVs and guiding them through the process, allowing teachers to give live feedback.

Students have been given access to UniFrog and received an hour long training session this week and as it is such a powerful tool for helping to guide their future pathways I would like to offer parents the opportunity to attend a parental session on UniFrog so you can better understand how it works and support your son/daughter at home.  The session will be held in the Secondary Building (SG1) on 20th January 2020 5pm-6pm.  If you would like to attend please email me ([email protected]) so that I can ensure the venue is suitable.

Finally, I would like to reach out to parents to for volunteers to help plan the Year 11 Prom for this year.  As yet the date is not set in stone as we are still waiting for some final information from exam boards regarding GCSE exam dates but it definitely be in mid-June.  If you would like to be involved in any part of the planning of the prom from venue visits to decorations please email me ([email protected]) so that I can arrange a meeting.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.
