Year 12 and 13 Welcome to Term 2 (with key dates)

Year 12 & 13 Welcome to Term 2

Dear Parents, Guardians and Students,

We hope this message finds you well and that you had a wonderful Christmas. As the new year begins, we would like to extend our warmest wishes for a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year to each and every one of you.

We would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the smooth transition that Year 12 students have made into the Sixth Form. It has been a pleasure to witness your growth and commitment to your studies during the first term. We are incredibly proud of your accomplishments and the positive atmosphere you have created within the school community.

One of the highlights of the term was the successful two days at the beginning of the school year, when students actively participated in team-building exercises as part of our Year 12 transition day. The level of enthusiasm and collaboration displayed by all of you was truly commendable. It was unfortunate that due to a thunderstorm warning, we had to cancel the Amazing Race after a few hours. Nevertheless, we appreciate your flexibility and adaptability in dealing with unexpected situations.

Last term proved to be a busy time for our Sixth Form cohort. For many Year 13s, university applications and interviews were top of the agenda, with the modular mock examinations coming a close second. For many Year 12s, the modular mock examinations gave them their first taste of a formal A Level examination and BTEC students have been working hard to complete their first assignments, which they will build upon in Term 2.

Alongside their academic studies, students have embraced extra opportunities on offer this year, with some noteworthy achievements along the way. I would like to congratulate our House Prefects for managing the Year 11 House Captains, and organising and delivering the whole-school ‘Robot Wars’ event and the end-of-term Secondary assembly and raffle.

Under the astute leadership of our Head Prefects, Surbhi and Mischa, the rest of the Prefect team have been working hard to autonomously run their respective councils in the school. The Sustainability, Subject Ambassador and Wellbeing councils have put in budget requests to the PTSA and have been meeting regularly with younger students to coordinate the changes that they would like to see in school. Special mention goes to the Prefects from the Community Council for their fantastic contribution to the Carols on the Pitch event. Your dedication and commitment to these roles are truly impressive, you have greatly supported the school’s vision for student leadership and you have already made such a difference in a very short period of time.

Alongside our student leaders, almost all Sixth Formers took on additional responsibilities last term, working alongside staff in a variety of capacities throughout the school. Students have been working as learning assistants, ECA assistants, lab technicians, admissions staff and much more! We are looking forward to see these roles evolve as the academic year progresses.

You may have read our bulletin before Christmas which celebrated the achievement of our Head Prefect, Mischa Kars in securing the highest mark in Hong Kong for AS Media Studies. We would like to congratulate Mischa on this fantastic achievement, and we look forward to seeing her progress throughout the rest of the academic year.

As we move forward into the next term, we encourage all students to continue striving for excellence, both academically and in extracurricular activities. Let us build upon the successes of this term and work together to make the most of the opportunities that lie ahead. We are very much looking forward to an exciting and productive second term.
