Year 2 International Mother Language Day

Dear Parents,
Next Thursday 21st February, DBIS is celebrating ‘International Mother Language Day.’ This day will be a fantastic opportunity for us to celebrate the range of countries that our children are from and the diverse range of languages that are spoken.
The focus for the day is for the children to have the opportunity to speak in their ‘Mother Language’ at school.
An activity that we would like to do with our Year 2 students on this day is for them to hear stories read in other languages. For this activity, we kindly ask the children to bring in a story book (not too long – perhaps a picture book), that is written in their mother language, that they would like to read to a small group of children in their class.
If your child soley speaks English, they could choose a book to bring in that they particularily enjoy reading aloud or they might select a book that includes English vocabulary that they specifically like.
Please can the books be brought into school next Thursday 21st February (please ensure they are clearly named).
If you have any queries, please speak to your child’s class teacher.
Kind regards,
The Year 2 Team
