Year 3 Welcome and Collection of Resource Packs

Dear Parents, 

The teaching team is hugely excited to begin a new year of learning for your children. Year 3 marks a new phase in your child’s learning journey as they leave the Early Years and join the Primary section of the school. It is characterised by increasing independence and fluency in many social and academic skills. 

Over the course of the year, we will challenge, support and extend your child’s mastery in the key areas of Reading, Writing, Maths and Science and use our engaging Discovery Units to provide the context and drive for this learning. Our Discovery Units this year will explore concepts related to how we learn, significant people who changed the world, the environment and sustainability, light and sound, and the active nature of our planet.

We also have a wealth of opportunities planned to develop your child’s creativity, resilience, and ability to collaborate and think in dynamic ways. These include Forest and Beach schools, an overnight camp, a trip to the science museum and, of course, the Year 3 show.

Online Home Learning

As we start the year in a new, exceptional way, the children should join their class teacher at 8.20 am on Thursday 13th August live on Google Meet via the following links:

Each day’s learning agenda, including specialist lessons, will be posted to your child’s ‘Google Classroom’ and shared with your child during their first meeting of the day. This overview is then hyperlinked to any platforms being used for specific activities. Your child’s teacher will support the children through these systems over the coming days. 

Collection of Learning Resources

We are also delighted to provide a learning pack to support our online provision and enable learning away from the screen. The initial pack is ready for collection on Wednesday 12th August at 9.15 from 3AR. In order to support social distancing, please can we ask that resources are collected tomorrow at the following times:

09:15-10:00 – Year 3 students – Y3AR
10:00-10:45 – Year 4 students – Y4AH
10:45 – 11:30 – Year 5 students – Y5CH
11:30-12:15 – Year 6 students – Y6RA

If you have children in more than one year group, please feel free to collect from more than one team at the same time in order to avoid additional visits. If you have requested to borrow a Chromebook for your child, these can also be collected tomorrow morning from the school canteen. From then on, each week, a new pack of resources and reading material will be ready for collection from school for Year 3 students on Fridays (starting 21st August).
