Year 4 Camp – Term 2

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We write to you with exciting news: the students in Year 4 will be participating in a two-night camp next term!

Accommodation

The camp will take place from Tuesday 20th February to Thursday 22nd February at Breakthrough Village Camp, Sha Tin.

The students will sleep in residential dormitories of up to six children per room. We will be asking for them to request chosen friends nearer the time of the camp. Although we cannot guarantee that they will be with all of their requested friends, we can guarantee that they will be with at least one.

Activities

Over the three days, each student will have the opportunity to take part in each of these activities:

  • Hiking Through History: Students will be taken on a historical hike through tunnels used by soldiers during the war.
  • Coastal Kayaking: Students will kayak out to the waters of Tai Mei Tuk to examine the biodiversity of its mangroves.
  • Farm To Table: Students will visit Fu Kum Organic Farm to take part in some sustainable farming methods and prepare simple dishes using the farm’s produce.

Students will also have lots of activities and games planned for them back at their base camp, as well as a dance party one evening too!

Transport Arrangements

Students should arrive at school on Tuesday 20th February by 8.15 am. After registering, we will take a bus to the Breakthrough Village Camp in Sha Tin. There will be a bus to return to DBIS on Thursday 22nd February, and the children will arrive back before the end of the day.

Cost

The total cost of the camp will be HK$4,200. This includes all transport, accommodation, activities, 2x breakfasts, 3x lunches and 2x dinners. Please settle your payment on or before Wednesday 17th January 2024. Payment can be made in the form of a cheque or bank transfer to our HSBC account #111-459624-001. Thereafter, please kindly email [email protected] with your bank confirmation and student name for our records.

Parent Information Briefing

We will be hosting an information session for parents on Monday 15th January at 8.30 am. The meeting will last around 30 minutes and will be held in the Globe. For those with children at our EYFS campus, please feel free to contact Angel Tang using [email protected] to arrange an earlier drop off of 8am that morning so that you are able to make the meeting. For those who are unable to attend, we will send out a copy of the slides containing all of the information.

During the meeting, we will share more information about the accommodation at the camp and the schedule of activities that the children will take part in. There will also be information about transportation arrangements/timings, food and what to bring. If you have any specific questions that you would like to be addressed, outside of those listed above, please email your class teacher. After the information session, a jotform will be sent out so that you can ask any other questions you may have.

Camps have always been such an integral part of our experiential curriculum at DBIS as they provide children with an opportunity to gain more independence, create deeper bonds with friends, build self-esteem and confidence, and have a great deal of fun. We are very much looking forward to taking your child on a much-anticipated DBIS Camp!

Kind regards,

The Year 4 Team
