Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are excited to announce that our Year 5 students will be participating in a two-night camp from Wednesday 26th to Friday 28th March.
Accommodation
The children will be staying at Breakthrough Village Camp in Sha Tin. If your child was with us last year, you might remember this location from the Year 4 camp. We’ve chosen Breakthrough Village again due to the excellent facilities and activities that build upon the children’s experiences at camp last year. On this year’s camp, the children will explore the rich Hakka history and traditions of the New Territories through a range of collaborative activities.
The students will stay in dormitories, with up to six students per room. Nearer the time, we’ll ask them to request friends they’d like to room with. While we can’t guarantee all requests, they will be with at least one friend.
Activities
Over the three days, each child will enjoy:
- A Hakka Hike – The New Territories are rich in Hakka history and traditions. Setting out from charming 400-year-old Wu Kau Tang village, we will follow a winding, shaded trail through a forest with lush vegetation, over freshwater streams, and along the coastline of Yan Chau Tong Marine Park. Along the way, we will pass abandoned rice fields and terraces once cultivated by the inhabitants of the other Hakka villages dotting this area, and the children will participate in a “choose your own adventure” storyline where they will make migration decisions for a fictional Hakka clan.
- SUP and Raft Building – The children will be taken out to the azure waters of Tai Mei Tuk. The course is designed to emphasise safety, enjoyment and the acquisition of skills. The students will first practise their paddling by the shore, before taking a watercraft out to the Ting Kok mangroves in Tolo Harbour, the fourth largest among Hong Kong’s 44 mangrove stands.
- Island Escape – This activity will bring the fun of an escape room into the outdoors, making use of a series of puzzles and challenges for the children to learn more about the culture, heritage and history of a particular place. In our Sai Kung Escape, the students will dive into the “Curious Case of the Salt Pan Treasure”, a game that leads them to explore Sai Kung’s Hakka history and one of the area’s islands in small teams within a set timeframe.
There will also be a range of activities and games planned for the evenings at the base camp, along with time to relax.
