Year 6 Camp Information

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We write to you with exciting news: the children in Year 6 will have their camp in Term ONE! We have planned an action-packed week with a wide range of activities and learning.

Accommodation
The four-night camp will take place from Monday 4th December to Friday 8th December at Sai Yuen Camping Adventure Park, Cheung Chau. The children will be staying in ‘African Safari Tents’, which all have air conditioning. A maximum of six students will stay in each tent, although some tents are smaller and will house a maximum of four children instead. Images of the tents can be found here: https://www.saiyuen.com/en/Accommodation/African-Safari-Tent.

Activities
During the camp, we will be taking part in an action-packed programme of exciting activities. These include the Fun Bun Tower, Djembe Drumming, Junior Abseiling, Barrier Archery Combat, Pirate Cave Adventure, Kayaking & SUPs, Raft Building, Mosaic Wall Workshop, Water Filter Craft Workshop, DBIS House Airband Competition, Campfire with Smores and Clash of the Tribes Teepee Building Challenge.

Food
The children are asked to bring a packed lunch for their first meal on the Monday; after that point, all breakfast, lunch and dinner meals will be provided for them. The children may pack some snacks to bring along to the camp too, but please ensure these are nut free as we have some students with severe nut allergies within our student body. If your child has any food allergies or restrictions that the school isn’t already aware of, please contact your child’s class teacher immediately to discuss this.

Transport Arrangements
The children will arrive at school on Monday 4th December at 9.30am. From there we will walk to Nim Shue Wan Pier to take a boat to Cheung Chau. Upon arrival at Cheung Chau, there will be a short walk for the children to the campsite, so please ensure that your child is able to independently carry all of their belongings. On the final day of the camp, we will take a boat back to Discovery Bay (Nim Shue Wan Pier), ready for parents/guardians to pick them up from the ferry pier at 12pm.

Cost
The total cost of the camp will be HK$5,500. This includes all transport, accommodation, activities, 4x breakfasts, 3x lunches and 4x dinners. Please settle your payment on or before Wednesday 15th November. Payment can be made in the form of a cheque or bank transfer to our HSBC account #111-459624-001. Thereafter, please kindly email [email protected] with your bank confirmation and student name for our records. We also require our Year 6 camp jotform to be completed by 15th November, including the two waivers within it. This will be shared shortly.

Parent Information Briefing
We will be hosting an information session for parents on Thursday 19th October at 6pm in The Globe at the Main campus.

During the meeting, we will be sharing more information about the accommodation at the camp and the schedule of activities that the children will take part in. If there are any specific questions or areas of discussion you would like addressed in this meeting please contact David Raftery, Year Group Leader ([email protected]), ahead of the meeting so we can ensure that your questions are addressed. If you have any other questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher.

Camps have always been such an integral part of our Experiential Curriculum at DBIS as they provide children with an opportunity to gain more independence, create deeper bonds with friends, build self-esteem and confidence and have a great deal of fun. We are very much looking forward to taking your child on their much-anticipated first DBIS camp!

Kind regards,

The Year 6 Team
