Year 8 Term 2 Welcome

Dear Students, Parents and Guardians,

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a wonderful New Year; it was lovely to welcome back all of the students for Term 2.

The Year 8 students had an exceptional Term 1, showcasing strong academic performance and unwavering engagement in school activities. I would like to take this opportunity to commend each and every student for their dedication and commitment to their studies. Throughout the term, our Year 8 students consistently demonstrated their academic prowess, with many consistently achieving outstanding results in their assessments and project-based learning. Their hard work and determination have not gone unnoticed, and we are incredibly proud of their achievements.

In addition to their academic success, our Year 8 students recently embarked on an unforgettable week-long camping trip to Yee Ting for Week Without Walls. During this time, they participated in a range of exhilarating activities, including coasteering, paddle boarding, and problem-solving challenges. It was truly heartwarming to witness their enthusiasm and teamwork throughout the trip as they embraced new experiences and created lasting memories.

Furthermore, we would like to extend our congratulations to our Year 8 students for their remarkable sporting achievements this term. They have excelled in various disciplines, including football, netball, basketball, swimming and gymnastics. Their dedication to sportsmanship and their commitment to representing our school with pride is truly commendable.

I would also like to take this opportunity to recognise the achievements of the following students:

Hyojay Shin for his achievement in the Mathematics Olympiad towards the end of last year. The Mathematics Olympiad is a two-hour challenge, and entry to the prestigious award is by invitation or sponsorship only. Around 1,200 students worldwide qualify for this every year. Out of these participants, Hyojay has gone on to become one of the top-scoring 25% of Olympians and has been awarded the Certificate of Distinction.

Sophie Holland, who competed in the Hong Kong Inter-Secondary Schools Gymnastics Competition and gained a merit award in both her floor exercise and vaulting.

As we look ahead to 2024, we are excited to announce that we will be continuing our pursuit of the Green Bird award. This prestigious accolade recognises schools that demonstrate exceptional commitment to environmental sustainability.

We encourage all students to actively participate in our eco-friendly initiatives and contribute towards creating a greener future while also celebrating their service through the Green Bird challenges.

While celebrating our students’ accomplishments, we would also like to address an area for improvement for Term 2. Attendance in school plays a crucial role in students’ progress and attainment. We kindly request parents and students support in ensuring regular attendance as it greatly contributes to their overall educational journey.

Finally, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to both our students and parents/guardians for their continued support. Your unwavering dedication and involvement in school activities have been instrumental in creating a positive and thriving learning environment. We truly appreciate your commitment to our school community.
