Year 8 Term 3 Bulletin

April 2024

Dear Year 8 Parents and Guardians,

I hope this bulletin finds you all well and the recent Easter holidays provided some much-needed rest and recovery for you and your families. This will of course be the final term of Year 8 for the students. On this regard, I have been discussing with the students in this week’s assembly about the importance of their attendance in school throughout Term 3 and work they will be undertaking to transition them into Year 9.

ECAs

All ECAs will commence next week, and I encourage all of the students to participate where they can.

Week Without Walls (WWW)

Please ensure you have signed up your child to November’s WWW camp by this Wednesday, 10th April, so we can proceed with the necessary arrangements and organisation. I firmly believe this diverse week of activities can build on the momentum created in Year 8 and provide the students with experiential learning founded on service, community and collaboration through an international trip.

Relationship and Sexual Education Lessons

This term will see Year 8 begin their relationship and sexual health education lessons as part of our Learning For Life curriculum. Please look over the following handbook for an insight into what the students will be learning. We appreciate these topics can be sensitive and mature for Year 8s, so please communicate any concerns if you have them.

Hong Kong Green Bird Award

All students should now have completed the following three areas of their Green Bird Award;

  1. Fitness
  2. Skills
  3. Expeditions

We had a fantastic day completing both the respective Monastery and Tiger’s Head hikes, which all contributed hours to the expedition section of the award. I am currently finalising the dates in which the students will complete a First Aid award to support the completion of the final section of the Green Bird Award in Service – further information to be provided.

Year 8 PTSC  – Thursday 2nd May, 4pm – 8pm

I look forward to seeing you at the upcoming Y8 PTSC and will provide further information regarding the booking of parent–teacher appointments.

As always, thank you for your continued support as Year 8 push ahead to the end of the year! It has been a pleasure to have carried out the role of Head of Year, and I look forward to seeing the students to continue to prosper into Year 9.

Please find attached the Secondary Parent and Student Handbook for reference to school queries.
