Book Week update: Book sale and Author Reading

Dear EY1 and EY2 families,

As you know, our first week back after the holidays is Book Week. Please feel free to browse the Book Week website.

As part of our Book Week, the Primary students will be holding a Book Sale on Wednesday 19th April during break and lunch times. If your child would like to buy a second-hand book, they will be HK$10 each. All proceeds from the sale will go to ‘Bring me a Book Hong Kong’.

On Thursday 20th April, the EY1 and EY2 children will listen to an author named John Dainton reading his books. John Dainton has lived in Hong Kong for 40 years working as a landscape architect consultant and contractor while also indulging his passion for writing. He has recently published the fourth book in his series ‘Animal Anarchy’, aimed at 7–10 year olds. The books are beautifully illustrated by the popular English illustrator Peter Kavanagh and feature story poems about silly animals, the trouble they get into and the life lessons to be learnt. Although fun to read, they are intended to challenge and expand vocabulary as well as introduce vernacular English. If you would like to buy any of John Dainton’s books, he will have them available at HK$90 each and can sign them for you. Please ensure that you have provided the money to your child’s class teacher before Thursday April 20th in order to receive your signed copy.

During Book Week, I encourage you to share one photo of your child reading for the Extreme Reading Challenge. To promote a community of readers, I have created a Padlet where Early Years students can share photos of them reading in weird and wonderful ways. Think reading in a tree house … whilst doing a gymnastics pose … in a kayak … or perhaps on the moon? Share your photo in the Padlet here.

A friendly reminder that Friday 21st April will be a dress-up day, so happy costume creating and Happy Easter!

Kind regards,

Ciara Sasikumar
