Chinese New Year Celebration and Dress-up Day 2022

Dear DBIS Community,

We are very excited to be celebrating Chinese New Year 2022 this year!  Although we are not able to have all those fun hands-on activities happening again this year due to the circumstances, we will still be able to enjoy a lovely celebration video on Friday 28th January,

Friday 28th January will also be an optional dress-up day with a $20 donation to the White Family and the Mastroianni Family. Everyone is encouraged to dress in traditional Chinese style outfits or red/gold/yellow clothing. For Early Years and Primary students, who will be learning online, your teachers will be delighted to see your festive CNY clothes through Google Meet as well!

We are also calling for CNY greetings video submissions from families, especially Early Years and Primary students, who won’t be on campus next week. All videos will be included in the final celebration video. It would be most wonderful if you could submit a short video clip of your child/family saying CNY wishes in Mandarin or your own native language. All videos must be landscape and submitted to this folder HERE with the file renamed with your child’s name and year group. Submission deadline: Thursday 20th January.

Chinese New Year is our most important local festival, celebrating the start of the New Year on the lunar calendar. Celebrations traditionally run from the evening preceding the first day to the Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the first calendar month. The first day of the New Year falls on the new moon, and this year, the first day of the Chinese New Year is on Tuesday 1st February, initiating another year of the Tiger.

We look forward to seeing your greetings videos and wish you Xīnnián kuàilè, Gōngxǐ Fācái!

新年快年,恭喜发财!

Warm regards,

Ms CAI Qin
