Dear Parents and Guardians,
In a bid to reduce summer reading loss, defined as the decline in children’s reading development that can occur during summer vacation times when children are away from the classroom, the library is pleased to announce details of its Summer Lending Programme.
- Parents of DBIS students (or an accompanying adult nominated by parents) are welcome to visit the library with their child/children to borrow in person. Before your visit, please print and complete this FORM and present it to library staff during your visit. Please see below for dates and times the library is open to parents to visit and borrow for the summer.
- Secondary students are welcome to visit the library in person to borrow during the final week of term. Before students visit, parents will need to print and complete this FORM. Students will need to present the completed form to library staff in order to borrow.Â
- Parents unable to visit the library are welcome to request books online using this FORM.Â
- If you are travelling this summer and your child/children was/were enrolled in Year 3 to Year 13 during 2023–24, you may wish to consider borrowing from our e-Book and e-Audiobook collection in addition to, or rather than, carrying physical books with you. Please find details HERE.
Please carefully note the following terms of lending:
- Our Summer Lending Programme is available to current DBIS families with children confirmed to be returning to DBIS for the 2024–25 school year and who do not have any outstanding loans.
- In order to give staff the opportunity to take stock of the library collection prior to the start of our Summer Lending Programme, all lending will be suspended between Monday 17th June and Friday 21st June.
- Summer lending will take place in the final week of school, between Monday 24th June and Thursday 29th June, after which the library will be closed until school resumes in August. In that final week, the library will be open to parents from 8am to 8.20am and 3.20pm to 4pm.Â
- You can find lists of recommended reads on the library website (library.dbis.edu.hk) under the Quick Lists tab.
- There will be a limit of 15 library books per enrolled child.
- Parents/guardians accept that if any book is damaged or lost over the course of the summer, they are eligible for the replacement cost plus a HK$30 administrative fee per book.
- All items borrowed under the Summer Lending Programme must be returned to the library no later than Friday 23rd August.
Feel free to contact the library should you have any questions, and thank you so much for taking part in our Summer Lending Programme.Â
