Digital Citizenship Week

Dear Parents

The week beginning Monday 25th October, DBIS will be taking part in the Common Sense Media Digital Citizenship Week.

Digital Citizenship Week is a whole-school event. All students will take part in a daily activity with class teachers and form tutors, with a different theme each day promoting student wellbeing. Students will take a deeper dive during their Learning For Life lessons where they will reflect on how they can use technology to be a positive influence in their community.

The daily theme will be the same across the whole school, with a different age-appropriate discussion activity taking place in each year group. The themes for each day are as follows:

Monday – Self-Awareness
Tuesday – Self-Management
Wednesday – Responsible Decision-Making
Thursday – Relationship Skills
Friday – Social Awareness

In order to support you in continuing these valuable discussions at home, we will be sharing a range of age-appropriate family discussion packs during the week. I will also be sharing a recorded Digital Wellbeing Webinar, which you can enjoy at your convenience.

We are incredibly excited to be launching a new initiative during Digital Citizenship Week, with the introduction of our Digital Leaders programme. This is a wonderful leadership opportunity that empowers young people to educate their peers about online safety. We already have a group of Year 11 students who will help to lead this programme, and are very much looking forward to kick-starting this project officially next week. We look forward to welcoming applications from students across the Secondary school in due course.

We have a very comprehensive Digital Citizenship curriculum here at DBIS. All students throughout the school visit a number of topics related to online safety and digital wellbeing throughout the year. Discussions and activities regularly take place in a number of curriculum areas, and we are pleased that the next week’s Digital Citizenship Week will provide a wonderful opportunity for our school community to further reflect on their digital wellbeing.

Kind regards
