Mentoring programme – Years 10–12

Dear Parents and Guardians of Year 10,

This is to make you aware of a mentoring programme that was launched earlier this week. This was introduced to the Year 10s and 12s a few days ago, and the response from both ends has been enthusiastic for various subjects.

To give you a background, the Year 12s will be conducting mentoring sessions Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, and an occasional Thursday. The timings are either 1.45pm–2.15pm (at lunch) or 3.30pm–4pm (after school) in the library.

The objective is for the Year 12s to provide the Year 10s with general guidance on how to revise for the subject, to teach a specific concept if need be and to help answer questions on a specific topic.

These sessions are not planned lessons, and the Year 10s who have enrolled are expected to come prepared with what they wish to work on during the 30 minutes. If there are cancellations due to unavoidable circumstances, then either the mentor or the mentee should communicate this in advance via email.

This has been started on a trial basis and will last until the end of the first week of May. I hope that this will help pave the path towards vertical tutoring, role modelling and leadership skills while improving conceptual understanding and increasing academic achievement and overall self-confidence.

Please talk to your child to find out if they have enrolled in this, and if so, for which subject.

Best regards,

Amrith Prabhu

Head of Year 10
