Mrs Karina Johnson, Head of Year 7, returning from maternity leave.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I wanted to take this opportunity to inform you that Mrs Karina Johnson, Head of Year 7, will be returning from  maternity leave on Friday February 25th and is very much looking forward to reconnecting with the year group.

I would like to thank Ms Shelby Smal for her strong guidance and support with Year 7 over the past few months and wish her all the best as she resumes her role as a Year 8 tutor. I would like to further extend gratitude to Mrs Colette Jones for stepping in to cover the Year 8 tutor group in Ms Smal’s absence. Mrs Jones did a fabulous job and will be a great loss to our Year 8  team.

Ms Smal and Mrs Johnson have been working closely over the past few weeks to ensure a smooth transition and to continue to support the students’ social and emotional wellbeing.

We have revamped 1:1 sessions into group Connection Chats, where the tutor will meet in small groups of four or five to check in and connect with students as of next week. These discussions will focus around checking in, celebrations, concerns or challenges the students are experiencing. We are hoping to foster group connections while we are online. Tutors will create a timetable for the week that will be shared with students via the Google Classroom.

I would also like to take the opportunity to ask that parents please remain vigilant with their children’s use of social media networking apps and online learning expectations.

Finally, if you have any questions, your first point of contact is your child’s tutor. They may then contact Mrs Johnson, and of course, you are also welcome to contact me for urgent matters. Myself, the Head of Year and the tutor team are here to support your child, and we all hope that they will approach us, or our Head of Wellbeing, Mr Jason Broderick, if additional support is needed.

Kind regards,

Ms Karen Hartcher

Assistant Head of Secondary (Pastoral)
