Reception Home Learning

Dear Reception Families,

We are all disappointed to be going online, but we are confident that the children will be provided with every opportunity for them to learn and progress through our home learning programme. This letter outlines some important details about our Reception home learning from Friday 14th January.

Friday 14th January

Friday 14th January will begin with a whole-class Google Meet at 10.30am where we will model how the children will use Seesaw and expectations for Google Meets throughout this period of home learning. The link for this session will be communicated through our ‘Virtual Classroom’, which can be located in the ‘Activities’ section of Seesaw from 10am on Friday 14th January. During this ‘live’ session we will also explain the children’s Seesaw learning engagements for the day. They will then have time to complete their activities and we will meet together again, online, via the same link at 2pm.

We kindly ask that you ensure the children use their DBIS login information when accessing their Google Meets. We will not be admitting non-DBIS accounts into our live online sessions. Top tip – double check that your internet browser or Google Meet app (not just Seesaw) is logged in with your child’s DBIS account. Please can everyone join each live session on time, with their microphones turned off. Microphones should only be turned on when directed by a teacher.

From Monday 17th January

From Monday 17th January onwards, we will begin our full Reception home learning programme. Please see the links to your child’s home learning timetable below. Please note the colour coding that highlights which sessions are whole-class live sessions, independent learning time to complete Seesaw challenges, and small-group sessions. The live sessions can be accessed via the labelled ‘Google Meet link’ on the daily Virtual Classroom.

RWI Groups

Please note that the children have been placed in small RWI groups for three sessions a week. This is to allow them to receive the phonics support they need, and therefore these groups will not be able to be changed. Your child will either be working with their class teacher, Ms Beattie, Mrs Borrelli, or Mrs Bredbury, as they would in school. To ensure these sessions run to time, please ensure your child clicks on their RWI lesson link at their correct time. If they arrive earlier than their specified time, they will be asked to leave and re-join later. RWI groups will run on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the children will join in small groups to access some Mathematics learning. This will all be clearly accessible through the daily ‘Virtual Classroom’. Your class teacher will share your child’s group and time via Seesaw on Friday 14th January at 5pm.

Discovery Google Meets

Discovery Google Meets will be a live, 15–20 minute optional session. During these sessions, we will run some fun and interactive ‘clubs’ including construction, art and dancing activities. These were very popular in previous closures, and we are sure your child will enjoy them if they choose to join.

Seesaw Activities

When your child is not engaged in a live session, they can complete their daily Seesaw challenges. These activities will have a short teaching video explaining what they need to do to complete the activity. These videos will be designed to give the children time to recap previous learning, remind them of the activity they need to complete and provide them with the motivation and inspiration to complete the activity as independently as possible.

Virtual Classroom

Our Virtual Classrooms will outline each day’s learning and will be available on Seesaw from 5pm the day before. Monday’s Virtual Classroom will be available from 5pm on the previous Friday.

Reading Book and Resource Pack Information

To support the children’s home learning, your child will be given a reading book and a resource pack for the following week’s learning. These will be handed out at the Early Years campus gates from 11.30am–12.30pm every Monday. We kindly ask that all reading books are returned on Monday at the same time of collection. The resources in the pack are to support the children with their Seesaw challenges during the week, so we kindly ask that they don’t complete these activities until the day of the challenge. These will be clearly labelled so you are aware of when to use them.

Tung Chung Pack Collection

If you would prefer to collect these resources from Tung Chung, please let your class teacher know. Mrs Yeo will be available every Monday from 3pm–3.15pm in the main Tung Chung square, near Starbucks (between the bus station and MTR station), to distribute these packs. When collecting your child’s resources, please show your child’s pick up card to Mrs Yeo.

Any uncollected packs will be kept with Ms Angel at the Early Years office.

We look forward to welcoming all our Reception children to our home learning programme at 10.30am on Friday 14th January, via Google Meet. In the meantime, if you have any queries about any of the above, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher.

Kind regards,

The Reception Team
