Reception Term 3 Welcome Letter

Dear Reception Families,

We hope you all had a relaxing spring break and that the children are feeling refreshed and ready for their return to learning. As you will be aware, the Education Bureau (EdB) has stated that there is to be a staggered return to face-to-face learning. Therefore, Reception will continue learning in our online format for the first two weeks, from Tuesday 19th April. On Tuesday 3rd May, we will be extremely excited to welcome all our Reception friends back into our classrooms! Please see the information below regarding learning in Reception in Term 3.

Online Learning

The online learning format will remain the same as before the spring break. Teachers will share a weekly overview of the learning for the week on Tuesday via the Virtual Classroom on Seesaw. Live sessions will continue as usual, and activity packs will be available from the Early Years campus between 11.30am and 12.30pm on Tuesday 19th April. Once Reception students return to the school campus, our focus will need to be on teaching the class in situ, and therefore we will not be in a position to continue with the current home learning programme for children who remain outside of Hong Kong; however, we will still continue our open-door policy, and you are therefore welcome to contact your child’s class teacher through Ms Angel ([email protected]) if you have any questions about your child’s learning whilst away.

Book Week

The first week back after the spring break is ‘Book Week’. The theme for Book Week this year is Global Goals. To celebrate the week, many of the online learning activities are based around this theme. The children are invited to dress up as a book character on Friday 22nd April. The children can share their costume and their favourite book during Community Time. We will also have a face-to-face Book Character Day when the children return to school; more details of this will be communicated nearer the time.

New Concept – Changes

Our new Discovery Unit for Term 3 is ‘Changes’.  The children will be exploring changes that happen both in their own lives and in the world around them. We will investigate why changes occur and use this unit as an opportunity to prepare the children for their transition into EY1.

RWI

As Term 3 begins, we will be revisiting the Set 1 and Set 2 sounds. We will continue to develop the children’s confidence in recognising and forming sounds as well as using their phonic knowledge to read and write words and sentences.

Reading books will continue to be sent home during Term 3. Reading at home should be a positive experience for your child where they can continue to build confidence and support their application of skills. Please remember to continue to share stories with your child, not just home readers, as listening to you read is one of the most valuable experiences your child can have on their journey to become a reader.

Maths

In Term 3, we will continue to build upon the children’s number skills, ensuring they have a deep understanding of the numbers to 10, including the composition. We will also focus on problem-solving skills including addition, subtraction, doubling, halving and sharing.

We will share more information about the face-to-face Reception day before they return on Tuesday 3rd May.

Kind regards,

The Reception Team
