Sports Week 21-25 October 2019

Dear Parents,

It gives me great pleasure to announce our second annual sports week for children in EY1 to Primary Year 6 is taking place on 21-25 October.

We, the Primary Physical Education Team, have designed a week of sporting activities, where every student will have the opportunity to enjoy being physically active, at times competitive and socially involved in sport and play. Each Primary year group will experience a morning and an afternoon of organised sporting activity on two separate occasions during the week. EY1&2 will enjoy a sports afternoon with their Sports Morning to follow on the later date of 20th November.

Here is an overview of the week’s program:

Monday 21 October Year 6 Swimming Gala, 09:00-11:30
Tuesday 22 October Year 5 Swimming Gala,  09:00-11:30 Year 3 & 4 International Sports Journey, 13:00-15:00
Wednesday 23 October Year 4 Swimming Gala, 09:00-11:30 Early Years 1 & 2 International Sports Journey, 13:00-15:00
Thursday 24 October Year 3 Swimming Gala, 09:00-11:30 Year 5 & 6 International Sports Journey, 13:00-15:00
Friday 25 October Diwali Celebrations and classes

Parents are invited to spectate our morning activities. Please ensure that you RSVP to our event invitations, sent separately, as this will help us to cater for spectators and manage spectator numbers effectively, particularly for the swimming events. Please refer to the letter regarding each event for details of what students will need to bring for those morning activities, which will also be communicated today via the parent portal.

The afternoon ‘International Sports Journeys’ are for students to try a range of sporting activities in a social setting. These will be on offer on our school site, including tasters of sports and activities from all around the globe. Students are to collect stamps and stickers for their “pas’sports” along the way, exposing them to new skills and activities and also giving them the opportunity to gain knowledge of the history of sport and also how it has evolved globally, raising an awareness of which sports are popular in or unique to different countries.

For the afternoon activities (please see above schedule), we would like students to wear a sports kit to school, this can be a team kit or a national replica kit from their home country or students can simply wear their national or house colours. Students must also wear socks and trainers on the day and bring their hat and water bottle. Students can wear this kit to school so they need not bring a change of clothes.

We are excited to provide a fun and active week of learning experiences for all students during Primary Sports Week. To help raise awareness of sports nutrition for young people, we will be sharing a list of suggested healthy and high-energy snacks and lunch box items to try. We hope you will find this helpful for every day that your child is active in school and at weekends.

Please contact me if you have any questions about our Sports Week or if you can offer to lead a sporting activity during any of our afternoon sessions.

Best regards,
