Term 3 in Reception

Dear Parents,

We hope you had a pleasant Easter break.

Through our slides and Google Meets this week, the Reception children will have the opportunity to take part in the DBIS Book Week. The focus of the week will be based on the exploration of different words through the story ‘The Word Collector’, by Peter H Reynolds.

As we would normally hold a ‘Pyjama and Story Night’ at school, we would like to invite all children to either wear their pyjamas and bring a teddy, or to dress as a book character when they join their Google Meet on Thursday morning (23rd April). We hope to have an exciting mystery visitor joining us, who will be reading their favourite story to the children!

This term, the learning in our Discovery unit is based around ‘Changes’. This will give the children the opportunity to explore changes that happen both in their own lives, as well as in the world around them.

In addition to our daily Google Meets, we will continue to offer a selection of challenges that offer learning opportunities in relation to Discovery, Maths and RWI. We fully appreciate the pressures that online learning can put on our families and therefore we ask you to just do what you can. Play is a significant part of our curriculum in Early Years and we actively encourage our children to follow their own interests, as they would if they were at school.

The teachers in Reception love seeing what the children have been doing while they have been away from school and therefore we encourage you to continue to use Seesaw as a way of sharing their experiences and achievements, as well as using the messaging tool to communicate with class teachers.

We look forward to seeing many of you at our Google Meets this week.

Kind regards,

The Reception Team.
