Term 3 – Year 10 Welcome Back Newsletter

Dear Parents and Guardians of Year 10,

Welcome back to Term 3! We are thrilled to be able to welcome students back onto the school campus to embark upon the final term of our first complete face-to-face academic year in three years.

We hope you all had a restful Easter break and are ready for classrooms full of excitement and collaborative learning, which is the perfect start to our final term.

The highlights of Term 2 with the Year 10s either actively participating or leading have been the Chinese New Year fair (arrangement of stalls, running them, videography, Chinese art exhibition, etc) in February, the school production FAME, followed by the AYP expedition, followed immediately by our school Sports Day held at Tsing Yi Sport Ground, all in March. A few students had applied and have been accepted into the role of Shadow House Captains just before Easter. They will step into the role of the House Captains to run Secondary School house events after the Year 11s go on their study leave in May. Several Year 10s have also been collecting work experience around the school since the start of the academic year as an opportunity to get a taste of responsibility and leadership in the real world. They will continue to do this in Term 3. They have been/will be awarded experience certificates for this. The Year 10 students have been encouraged to build their Personal Branding portfolios, which will include their academic and extracurricular achievements along with any work experience they may have. This is towards their university applications in Year 12.

Besides this, we have had a buddy pair-up programme between the Year 10s and 8s to help build communication skills and start to pave the path towards potential future mentoring, a Mental Health week in February, and have looked at how to be Problem Solvers and Committed Learners in assemblies with the Year 12s. We ended our Term 2 with a house events day on the last day of school.

Our key dates for Term 3 are:

Tuesday 25th April – Year 10 Strength and Target Reports

Thursday 27th April – Last day of Mentoring with the Year 12s (for the ones who have registered)

Wednesday 3rd May – Parent–Teacher–Student Conference

Tuesday 23rd May – Friday 2nd June – Mock Exam period (details specific to the exams will follow in a few days)

Thursday 1st June – Thursday 29th June – Mentoring schedule resumes with the Year 12s

Wednesday 14th June – Year 10 Mock Report

Friday 30th June – Last day of school

The Year 10 tutors, Jack Piggott and Lara Scrimgeour, will continue to have 1:1 meetings with students. This term, the focus will be on study techniques, revision schedules, and any difficulties with organisation or other issues that may arise with this.

There is no doubt that this will be a fantastic final term and, as always, if you have any questions, please know that your first point of contact is your child’s tutor. I will, of course, be available to answer any questions you may have too.

Finally, I would like to make you aware that Term 1 for the Year 11s (2023–24) will commence on Thursday 17th August 2023.

Best regards,

Amrith Prabhu

Head of Year 10
