Welcome to Term 2 in Year 2

Dear Year 2 Families,

Welcome to Term 2! We hope you all had a relaxing break and wish you all a happy new year! This letter contains some information about the upcoming term.

Term 2 Learning

This term we will continue with the Discovery unit ‘Inspiring Artists’. Following that, we will look at design, innovation and invention in our unit ‘Fantastic Firsts’. In this unit, the children will explore ‘firsts’ in their own lives and experiences as well as globally and historically. They will also look at significant events in their own lives and beyond their living memory, exploring science, technology and history.

For further details regarding the Discovery units as well as an overview of the whole curriculum for this year, please see the Curriculum Handbook and Transition Booklet linked below:

School Trips

School Trips in Term 2 are as follows:

  • 31st January, Kidsfest theatre trip: I Believe in Unicorns
  • February 2024 (date TBC), Science Museum

Home Learning

As in Term 1, home reading books will come home each week. Children will also have spelling to practise each week. Please ensure your child brings to school on the appropriate day:

  • Home–School Link Book
  • Home Reading Books
  • Library Books
  • Spelling Book

Housekeeping

Please ensure children bring the following items each day:

  • Named A3 plastic folders (for reading and library books)
  • Named water bottle (please ensure no metal water bottles are brought to school)
  • A small snack (in a container they can open independently, labelled with your child’s name and class)
  • Named lunch box (labelled with your child’s name and class – unless your child is eating at the cafeteria)
  • Wellies and raincoat (labelled with your child’s name and class)

Please ensure your child is wearing the appropriate and correct uniform to school each day. Details of this can be found on our school website. Hats must be brought to school every day as students must wear them during break and lunch times; otherwise, they will be unable to play on the playground. Students with longer hair are required to tie it back for health and safety reasons, and jewellery is not permitted.

Year 2 students wear the Main Campus uniform; information can be found here.
