Welcome to Term 3 in Year 4

Welcome to Term 3 in Year 4

Dear Parents,

Welcome back! We are thrilled to be able to welcome the children back onto the school campus to embark upon the final term of the academic year, face to face. The classrooms will be once again full of excitement and collaborative learning, which is the perfect start to our final term. We hope that you and your children had a wonderful and restful Easter break and are ready for an action-packed Term 3, learning about innovation and design in our new Discovery unit of inquiry, Young Entrepreneurs.

In Discovery this term, the children will be addressing the questions ‘What is innovation?’ and ‘How can innovations help us to live more sustainably?’ In line with this, in English, we will be looking at stories with an innovation theme, including Ug by Raymond Briggs and One Plastic Bag by Isatou Ceesay.

For further details regarding the Young Entrepreneurs Discovery Unit as well as an overview of the whole curriculum for this term, please read the Term 3 Parent Overview. This overview provides a summary of what your child will be learning this term.

The Learning for Life curriculum, which focuses on promoting the health and wellbeing of our pupils, has been taught throughout the academic year. During Term 3, we will be teaching the Relationships and Sexual Education (RSE) element. Specific information about this will be shared with you via Seesaw prior to the lessons taking place.

Please ensure you continue to discuss your child’s learning with them. Much of their work is recorded within their Google Drive, Classroom and on Seesaw.

With regards to homework, now we are back in school, we will be continuing with our regular system and schedule of:

  • All homework will be set on Google Classroom weekly.
  • Reading each night. Children are to record the title of their book and the pages that they read in their diaries on a daily basis. Please can you, as parents, sign this too.

On Thursday 23rd June, we will have an online Celebration of Learning in Year 4 on Seesaw. This will be showcasing the children’s understanding from Term 3, especially related to our Young Entrepreneurs Discovery Unit.

Term 1 for next academic year (2022–23) will commence on Thursday 25th August 2022. Both Thursday 25th and Friday 26th August will be half days, with the children going home at 12.10 pm for Parent–Teacher conferences to take place.

Thank you for continuing to engage with your child’s learning; we would like to take this opportunity to recognise all of the support that we teachers have received from our parent community over the last term of online learning. The children have been brilliant, rising to the challenge of online lessons and demonstrating self-management and motivation; thank you for encouraging and supporting this.

This will be a fantastic term full of learning for Year 4. As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher.

Best wishes,

The Year 4 Team
