Dear Year 10 Parents,
Year 10 have just started their first of four coursework assignments for their IGCSE. Each assignment is worth 20% of the English Language/Literature qualifications. In preparation for their assignment, students are expected to follow the process as outlined below.
- First drafts of coursework will be handwritten over a number of writing lessons in copybooks labelled ‘Controlled Assessment Diaries’ (CAD) . Â
- Teachers will collect CADs at the end of each lesson.Â
- During each writing lesson, students will have access to their texts. Â
- In addition, students may bring in hardcopy bullet point notes which reflect their understanding of any reference material used. Â
- Notes which are plagiarised or extracted from other sources such as Poe or chatGPT should not be used.Â
- Teacher discretion will be used to question students about the content of bullet point notes.Â
- When the first draft of the essay is complete in the CAD, the student will then type and submit the first draft through Google Classroom where it will also be checked for plagiarism.Â
- All students will receive verbal and written feedback on their first draft.Â
- Final drafts will be typed and submitted through Google Classroom, and a plagiarism check will again be used for the final draft.Â
- All students will be reminded of the final draft deadline.Â
- The handwritten and final drafts will be compared to ensure any major changes to the piece reflect the student’s own work. Issues with academic integrity will result in a student rewriting the essay based in supervised, timed conditions using an unseen question.
