EY1 Term 2 Welcome Letter

Dear EY1 Families,

Welcome to Term 2! We hope you all had a relaxing break and wish you all a happy new year! This letter contains some information about the upcoming term.

Reading

New reading books will come home with the children in Week 1. Please read these books over the week with your child and return them to school on your allocated day. For more information please see the bulletin on the hub Home Readers in EY1 & 2 – DBIS Hub .

The Magic 100 Words programme will also restart in Week 1. Please ensure your child has their Magic 100 Words sheet in their folder each week.

Term 2 Learning

This term we will be starting a new Discovery unit called ‘Let’s Build Structures’, and our conceptual lens will be ‘Design’.

In Maths, we will be covering the following areas of learning:

  • Place Value
  • Counting in 2s, 5s and 10s
  • Measurement: Length and Height
  • Multiplication & Division
  • Fractions

In Writing, the children will continue to write about areas of interest and be introduced to various genres for writing to support their growing repertoire of ideas. We will focus on applying the growing range of ‘Writing Secret’ skills that have been taught so far.

Pick Up Cards

A reminder that we are starting our pick up card system from Tuesday 4th January. We kindly ask that the adult collecting your child at the end of the day has one of your pick up cards to show your child’s class teacher. If a pick up card is not presented, the adult will be required to sign your child out at the office. Please also inform your child’s class teacher if the adult collecting your child is not one of your three ‘regular’ allocated adults. Please see the hub letter for further details (https://hub.dbis.edu.hk/bulletin/pick-up-cards-for-home-time/)

Housekeeping

Please ensure children bring the following items each day:

  • Two named A4 plastic folders (reading and library)
  • Named water bottle (please ensure no metal water bottles are brought to school)
  • A small snack (in a container they can open independently, labeled with your child’s name and class)
  • Named lunch box (labeled with your child’s name and class – unless your child is eating at the cafeteria)

Please ensure your child is wearing the appropriate and correct uniform to school each day. Details of this can be found on our school website. Hats must be brought to school every day as students must wear these during break and lunch times; otherwise, they will be unable to play on the playground. Students with longer hair are requested to tie it back for health and safety reasons, and jewellery is not permitted.

If you have any queries about any of the above, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher.

Kind Regards,

The EY1 Team
